Tokyo International Great Quilt Feastival 2018

Applications must arrive no later than Saturday, September 30, 2017

Everyone, whether professional or amateur, is welcome, regardless of age or nationality (excluding Junior Category).

●Entries are limited to 1 entry per person per category.

●Entries must be an original work, wholly conceived and constructed by the sole person on the entry form (except for Junior categories).

●Entries must have been completed during or after 2015, and previously unpublished in any print or electronic media (excluding catalogs for group exhibitions, etc.)

●Any prizes awarded in tha past, both internationally and domestically, must be listed.

●Quilts must consist of a single unit and connot be framed in wood, metal, etc. Except for Framed Quilt category.

●Entered works must be available for judging and display from early November, 2017 to late February, 2018.

●Entries must not contain any animal or plant materials restricted under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wlid Fauna and Flora, nor contain any materials restricted by Japanese Quarantine authorities.

●Unauthorized use of copyrighted works is not permitted.

●Please send a completed entry form along with 2 photographs of each entry (an overall photograph showing all quilt edges, and a close-up photo that shows the stitching).

●The 2 photographs will not be returned.

▶ ENTRY FORM

●The first round of jury screenings will be held in mid-October and juried by photograph.
All entrants will be notified of the results. (After the first round of judging, the jury may make a decision to change your entry category.) 

●The second round will be held in mid-November from amongst works selected during the first round.During this round, the actual piece will be juried.

●Qualifying entrants shall be responsible for shipping their works to the festival committee offices.
Entries will also require an entry fee of 3,000 yen (to cover insurance, return shipping fees, etc.), 5,000 yen for overseas entries, free for Junior category.

●Entrants will be notified of the results by the middle of December.

●All entries that qualify for the second round are juried into the show, and will be displayed at the festival.

●The final round of jury screenings will be held in December. The results will be also available on the official website after 10:00 on the first day of the festival.

●The final round of jury screenings will be held by the following jurors:
Hiroshi Kashiwagi (Professor Emeritus of Musashino Art University. Major is History of Modern Design. And design critic.), Yoko Ueda (Quilt artist), Shizuko Kuroha (Quilt artist), Suzuko Koseki (Quilt artist), Yoko Saito (Quilt artist), and others.

◆〔Japan Quilt Grand Prix〕First Place (1 work)
　1,000,000 yen prize money and certificate of merit, and excellent sewing machine
　　　Given to the most outstanding quilt in artistry and technique. 

◆〔Japan Quilt Grand Prix〕Second Place (1 work)
　500,000 yen prize money and certificate of merit
　　　Given to the second most outstanding quilt in artistry and technique. 

◆〔Hand Making Award〕(1 work)
 　300,000 yen prize money and certificate of merit
　　　Given to the most outstanding hand made work. 

◆〔Friendship Award〕(1 work)
　300,000 yen prize money and certificate of merit
　　　Given to the quilt that is filled with the joy of quilting and conveys the idea that quilt is fun. 

◆〔Category Awards〕(18 works)
　Prize money and certificates of merit are given to the top three works in each category
　　　Given to quilts that best embody the characteristics of each category.

◆〔Jury’s Special Award〕(7 works)
　50,000 yen prize money and certificate of merit
　　　Given to quilts selected by each juror. 

◆〔Excellence Award〕(10 works)
　30,000 yen prize money and certificate of merit
　　　Given to excellent quilts in all categories that did not win the above prizes. 

◆〔Corporate Awards 〕(24 works)
　Prize money and certificate of merit awarded by corporations that support quilters.

◆〔Honorable Mention〕(30 works)
　20,000 yen prize money and certificate of merit 
　　Given to quilts that have simple yet good design and technique and demonstrate high
　　potential. 

●The organizers take utmost precautions in the handling and maintenance of entered works, but cannot be held responsible for damage due to inherent properties of materials used, construction defects, natural disasters, or other factors beyond their control.

●The organizer reserves the right to publish or broadcast the images of all prize-winning works.

●After the festival, the organizers may ask to borrow the winning works for a certain period of time.

●Your personal information described in entry sheet will only be used to send you information on Tokyo Great International Quilt Festival and related events, and will not be provided to any third party.

●Festival dates are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.
