NHK EDUCATION CORPORATION

English lives TV programming and more Education, content for a berderless age

NHK Educational Corporation was established in 1989 with funding from NHK (Nippon Hoso Kyokai; Japan Broadcasting Corporation), Japan's largest broadcasting organization and sole public broadcaster. Our founding mission: to develop high-quality educational and cultural programming for NHK's television, satellite and radio channels.

In particular, NHK Educational Corporation is an important provider of content to NHK's Educational TV, where our productions account for about one-third of total programming. While children's shows are our specialty, we also create many programs for adults, including programs focusing on art, cooking, language study, health and hobbies. The Japan Prize Grand Prix that we were awarded in 1999 is a testament to the high quality of our work.

As the digital era has evolved, so too has NHK Educational Corporation. A very broad range of activities now includes producing DVDs of programs; organizing events and symposiums; presenting stage shows for parents and children; making video records of exhibits at art museums and expositions; producing digital content, creating educational materials for universities, research institutions and local authorities; and marketing character merchandise. As broadcasting and communications converge and the world becomes truly borderless, we will continue to provide high quality content in every format to people of all ages and interests.
